About Us

“Rushing in Patagonia is a waste of time”, commented the gaucho Albanio Sandoval a few minutes after we arrived at the Cerro Castillo lagoon for the first time when only a handful of backpacking travellers ever got here – these were our first adventures . . .

Cerro Castillo, on the “Carretera Austral” was where we settled, established a home and put down roots during our early adventures in Aysén. As time passed we received more and more visitors and decided to convert our home into a small, mountain lodge while at the same time conserving the essence & traditions of southern Patagonia: welcoming, cosy & warm, with life revolving around a big wood burning stove at the heart of the home.

The House was designed with care and nobility in mind emphasising shelter and homely warmth that encourages visitors to relax before the views and immensity of Patagonia. Inspired by Nordic designs and influenced by traditions from Chiloé and the Tehuelche culture; the house makes use of native woods on the outside, is roofed with traditional shingles and incorporates examples of local artisan products, maps and historical artefacts into the interior design.

This is a unique and pleasant oasis in the wilderness of Patagonia; a refuge to enjoy that will really hold your attention. We look forward to seeing you!
